At Evergreen Senior Living in Decatur, we believe that where someone spends their later years should never be decided by their financial situation alone. That is why we are proud to be one of the only senior living communities in Macon County that accepts Medicaid, alongside private pay, long-term care insurance, and veterans benefits. Quality care, genuine connection, and a life full of meaning should be available to every family who walks through our doors, and here at Evergreen, it is.
Our campus is home to two distinct communities. Evergreen offers Supportive Living for those who want assistance with daily life while staying active and socially engaged. The Legacy offers specialized Memory Care for those living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, guided by a compassionate, research-backed philosophy that honors each person’s story.
Two communities. One campus. And one team that shows up every day because this work truly matters to them.
Our two communities share a team and a culture built around the people who live here. The residents shape the events, influence the menus, and bring this place to life every single day.
What differs between the two communities is the level and style of care, because what someone in Supportive Living needs and what someone living with dementia needs are two very different things, and we approach both with equal intention.
Supportive Living is for seniors who could use a hand with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, or managing medications, but who still want to live with independence, purpose, and plenty of social connection.
The Legacy is our Memory Care community for those living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Our team is trained in Life Unrehearsed™, a philosophy centered on meeting each resident in their own moment with empathy, creativity, and flexibility.
Families often come to us when a loved one is struggling with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, walking, or managing medications. Safety is the first priority, but at Evergreen it is never the only one. Our residents stay active, form real friendships, and enjoy a life that feels full and purposeful every single day.
This is not a place where residents simply receive care. They help create the culture. From planning themed events and outings to volunteering with Meals on Wheels and sitting on resident councils, our residents have a voice here and they use it. That sense of ownership and purpose is something families notice immediately, and it is something we are deeply proud of.
We accept private pay, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and veterans benefits, making us one of the most inclusive senior living options in Macon County. There are no entrance fees and no long-term commitments. We keep things simple and transparent because families have enough to navigate already.
One of the most reassuring things about choosing Evergreen is knowing that if a loved one’s needs change, they will not have to leave.
Residents who begin in Supportive Living and later need Memory Care can move to The Legacy without losing the staff who know them, the neighbors they have grown close to, or the sense of community they have built. That continuity is rare, and for many families it is the deciding factor.
We are also growing. The Legacy Memory Care is currently expanding with 20 additional apartments, allowing us to welcome more residents and continue providing the high quality, personalized care this community is known for.
Finding the right senior living community is hard enough without worrying about whether you can afford it. At Evergreen Senior Living, we made a deliberate choice to keep our doors open to every family, regardless of how their care is funded.
We are proud to be one of the only senior living communities in Macon County that accepts Medicaid for those who qualify. That means families who have spent years wondering if a warm, engaging, and professionally staffed community was within their reach can stop wondering.
We also accept private pay, long-term care insurance, and veterans benefits, and we are happy to walk families through their options clearly and honestly. There are no entrance fees and no long-term lease commitments. Just straightforward, month-to-month living with the flexibility families need and the quality care their loved ones deserve.
Because everyone deserves dignity, connection, and a place to belong, no matter their financial background.
